Safety and where to stay in Montego-Bay

Is Montego-Bay dangerous? Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. The vast majority of these murders are gang related and happen in places where tourists never visit. Violence against tourists is extremely rare. I have visited Jamaica 3 times and never once felt unsafe. Montego-Bay has a huge police force. The police and army are everywhere and you see them carrying out checks every day. I do advise female tourists not to go out after midnight. Even in groups.

What is the safest place in Montego-Bay? All resorts are shielded and surrounded by high walls. All these resorts also have 24/7 security. When you book an Airbnb, it is best to look for it in the Hip Strip area. The Hip Strip is the entertainment district of Montego-Bay where all the restaurants, discos and beaches are located . The Hip strip also has the largest police presence and is only 3 kilometers from Montego-Bay Airport.

The places in Montego-Bay that you should avoid as a tourist and are very dangerous. Are the following :
